A Visit to the US National Arboretum

column-1000

A jaw dropping surprise to me was The US National Arboretum in N.E. Washington. 446 acres. 9.5 miles of walking trails of trees, flowering shrubs, and plants and THIS…the original columns of the US Capitol building.

When you see photos of Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural, the columns are these. In 1958 they were dismantled to make way for the east front extension of the Capitol which now has marble reproductions of these columns.

The dogwood trees were in bloom.

Oh, also…I saw a big, big snake. I couldn’t take a photo cuz I was too busy running away.
