My cousin Mary, who lives in Florida, says she is tired of looking at photographs of snow on my blog. Did I say she lives in FLORIDA? ( And, if truth be told, she’s not crazy about trucks and industrial parks either.)
“I’ll be glad to see some of your flower photographs.”
I love the girl–we are best friends. See HERE to see our photographs at age five.
BUT.
She’s got no idea how I’d like to be photographing something other than snow, but it’s hard to avoid. You can’t go shopping for the ingredients to make minestrone soup without dodging dirty snow banks.
So, I’ve decided to start a new series, “Spring Thaw” to document the vanishing snow and the imminence of spring. Documenting transitions is practically a blood sport in this current world, so I’ll try to soften the blunt force of change by images of spring coming to my little bit of the world.
I’d just like her to know, for the record, that photographing snow on a digital camera ain’t no picnic at the HEATED pool but I’m not bitter. First, you run the risk of slipping and falling–and one mistep for this photographer and I’m in THE home.
Also, one flake contains more blue than a clear TROPICAL sky so all that has to be dealt with before the image is complete.
But, I have to admit, I’m weary too of white landscapes whether still or whizzing by me.
In my head, my garden is already blooming.
Did I say she lives in FLORIDA??
