The Bay State Correctional Facility in Norfolk is shrouded by pine trees and next to the maximum security prison and diagnostic center, the MCI-Cedar Junction complex. I’ve driven by both these facilities on the way to and from Dedham for years. At MCI, there is an imposing high concrete perimeter wall with a crosswalk leading from the parking lot on the opposite side of the street to the prison entrance. On weekends, I often see families crossing to visit.
A February twilight seemed the right light to photograph the stand of pine trees that surround the Bay State Correctional Facility. The website says it is a medium security prison with 300+ long and short term inmates, many of whom are elderly.
There is no month of the year that I drive by these facilities where I don’t feel a February chill in the air and dwindling light.
