I took this photograph outside the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass. It is a sculpture by Steve Lambert that greets everyone outside the door and asks them to vote on whether Capitalism is working for them.. Later, this piece shall travel to the streets of Boston and be installed for an undisclosed period of time. I put the photo through my Snapseed app by the lovely Nik corporation to suggest whatever this patina suggests and have just put it up as a new Timeline image on my Facebook business page.
I figure I’d vote with my camera. Yeh! It works. But, oh, lordy, the natives are restless with Facebook’s version of capitalism. Ever since going public or preparing to go public, the push is on. We are going to be worth that 10 billion by one new hook after another. They reveal that only 16% of your business page fans every see your postings in their news feed. Solution? They’ve got a solution you’ll need to pay for even though theoretically the postings should be going to their pages. They reveal that a staggeringly low percentage of people who “like” your page ever come back. Solution? They’ve got a solution you’ll need to pay for: Premium Ads, Offers.
My first response: “**#*&!••”.
Second response: Sounds like Capitalism with a big “C” to me. So, stop huffin’ n’ puffin’ and let’s get on with it.
They did the big ‘reveal” ala Steve Jobs on Feb 29. Standing on a stage, miked, striding, telling anecdotes as if they were Zeuskins. I turned it off and waited for those who are wiser and have more patience to tell me what one has to throw out completely and create out of whole cloth NOW to keep current with Facebook’s capitalistic tentacles. Quite clearly social relationships need to become business relationships in the future if Facebook is going sustain its current evaluation.
PS. There is no one like Steve Jobs so create your own way to reveal new products, will you? It just makes me miss him more rather than love your new changes more or wildly.
Which I might yet do.. after I’ve finished swearing.
