Of the things we fashioned for them that they might be comforted, dawn is the one that works. When darkness sifts from the air like fine soft soot and light spreads slowly out of the east then all but the most wretched of humankind rally.

Nice shot. Looks like you were rewarded for getting up so early.
Razz, this is a series of photos I did in the Fall of ’09. I needed the photo to match the quote. This book is giving me a quote a day.
i remember this one. it seems quite different now, but maybe i am remembering something else. the mist, the water, the colors, texture, are they all different? it is beautiful!
Yes, Kathi, this may be familiar. I posted several from this series in Fall ’09 and so it may appear “changed” cuz I don’t remember exactly whether this was one of the ones I posted! It makes me understand why fisherman like to fish in the early morning.
masterpiece.
A stunning image to complement a great bit of verse! I will never forget how, after sailing through the black of night, the breaking of dawn and the first light on the horizon would lift my spirits. The early morning mists are one of the things I miss now.
There is nothing like first light on the water, Don. Thinking about sailing through the black of night into dawn makes me want to hitchhike near a marina!
Holy Crap. How did I miss this? How Turneresque! How absolutely lovely! You’re a genius.
Turneresque requires a meal of black quinoa, 4 points at WW, the night before dawn. Simple, really. Add strawberries and cucumber and you become Winslow Homer.
