Deep Thoughts While Walking The Freedom Trail

freedomtrail1

When you walk the Freedom Trail in Boston you walk around busy downtown Boston.  You’ll stop at ancient burying grounds that are just inches from the busy sidewalks.

Yesterday, I stopped by Kings Chapel burying grounds, the final resting place of many early colonists.  Mary Chilton, the first woman to step off the Mayflower, is buried here for example.

Anyway, I strolled by these stone markers and thought my usual “deep” thoughts.

I can never quite shake the odd feeling that these early settlers from the 1600’s and participants in our American Revolution are now inches away from the land of flip flops.

But, hey, maybe it’s just me.

  1. I think that the freedom trail one one of the best things that I’ve come across in the US (the peice of moon rock in the smithsonian that the public can touch is another).

I did it years ago in the late 70s and I often think about it and I’ve told a lot of people about it. I keep telling my wife that if we ever go to Boston we should walk along it.

  2. Yes, what would they think of their beloved America? that is the burning question. I think for many of them, it would be a love/hate relationship. Great shot btw.

  3. mary chilton may she rest in peace, and may the rest of us be at peace. this world is a puzzle a conundrum a challenge to our sensibilities, but it is what it is and deep down we have to love it flip flops and all
