I give thanks daily for creativity as it truly is the best health plan. It generates gratitude which is always preferable to the by-products of the Rage Machine.
I collected the leaves in this project on my walks before they could be bagged or raked or “cleaned up” and the latest, blown into a truck through a big hose.
This project involves fabric I eco-dyed several years when my back allowed me to carry heavy dye pots. Maple, rose, peony, ferns, and oak leaves were all picked up around my condo.
This week I sewed the eco-dyed fabric as a lining to the cinnamon-colored wax canvas exterior. I assembled the bag with what is called the “birthing” method and, well-named it is, as it was like being in a wrestling match with The Terminator. Wax Canvas and my eco-dyed canvas made for a bag that did not want to be birthed. I had to wrestle it out with a few sore arthritic thumbs. But, ta-dah.
It is a way to remember that even though some parts of this I can no longer physically do, (and I’m going to have to learn an alternative method to “birthing” a bag in the future) I can make something fun with skills that I didn’t have three years ago and learned sitting down!
