Mr. President

I can’t resist Newseum.org.  It offers, on a daily basis, newspapers from around the world.  If one was wondering if the world took notice of Obama’s election, a visit to the front pages of over 700 daily world papers on November 5th answered the question. I have rarely seen almost every world paper have the same story on page one as they did on November 5th.

There are over 100 front pages in this collage, highlighting three of my favorites that are featured in the middle: The newspaper from Spain,  “el Periodico” put Martin Luther King on the front page.  One image for the entire page.  Second was a newspaper in Germany called “Die Welt” (The World) which won my heart by putting Jasper John’s American Flag on the front page; the third was the “Chicago Sun Times” which inevitably has the best newspaper front page regardless of story, but on this day, once again, I think they trumped all the images we saw on our US papers by putting a professional close-up portrait of Obama with “The President” the only text placed to the lower right of the image.

It is in alphabetical order, starting from the top row and going from left to right.  By this method, foreign countries are mixed in with US states.

    Could any two words ( and one of them an abbreviation ) sound better next to his name.
    I’ll have to bookmark that Newseum site. I find it insightful to see how we’re perceived outside the US.

  2. Yes, it was great to do. And eye opening as to how aspirational this man is to just about the whole planet! Truly amazing. The only other time I saw this many newspapers have the same person on the front pages around the world was when Pope John VI died. But, even he didn’t get Syria, Barack did!

    This is a wonderful post. I love the fact that you have embraced history by creating something to mark this momentous occasion.

  4. Epic, I don’t care whether she thinks Alaska is a dessert, she’s not a heartbeat away and I am breathing again. Judging from these newspapers, he could go just about anywhere and draw a crowd. What a freakin’ difference overnight. Scary. Profound. Humbling. To be him.
