My new logo is OJESUS. Why? Because I have said this phrase with daily regularity ever since November, 2016. I used to say it with an exclamation mark. Today, after seeing the headlines from Michigan. Omnicon. I just mutter it now, more a sigh. A text embedded sigh. I think I’ll tell you how I made it because it distracts me.

This morning began with yet another sighing “O, Jesus” and after my cup of coffee, I remembered seeing Mel Bochner’s 1940 “HA HA” yesterday on Instagram.

So, I bought some large paper stencils at Michaels and came home and went to work. I tried at first to duplicate Mel Bochner. Then, it just evolved into what it became. I am going to enlarge it onto a metal paper/frame that is 24in x 24in and hang it in my hallway. I wish I had a pink chair like the photo. Mel Bochner painted with oils on velvet. I was going to try to paint on velvet at first. Then, I slapped my face on one side and then the other side with clarifying force. I hand stenciled the letters onto to mix media paper but then the rest of the mutations were done digitally: painting, layering, and added textures. I’ve got a piece of nice black velvet that is still calling my name, though. But, I have no oil paints. Yet.
I created a new logo based on looking at a Mel Bocher 1940 painting. His text painting, “HA HA” was oil on velvet and mine began as stenciled letters on paper but then was all digitally painted and blended with textures. I thought about trying to paint it on velvet at first. Then, I slapped my face with a clarifying force
You could watch it in video form, too.
