So, what am I doing instead of choking?

  • I just ordered my Christmas presents today, January 23rd, for next Christmas. A total first.
  • Yesterday, I decluttered my loft (not a first but you’re forgiven if you saw it and thought it was) and found my sewing machine accessories that had been lost for 6 years. I even know what each item is now. Thank you, sewing classes.

Life isn’t Everything.

Mike Nichols
  • I go around quoting Mike Nichols. It’s a comedic and tragic earworm. “Life isn’t everything.” I’ve just read a book of anecdotes about him with that title. I’ve watched and rewatched the American Masters episode about him directed by his comedy partner and total genius,
  • Elaine May.

Through citations in the book, I came across this compilation of some of the comedy bits of the Nichols and May partnership in the ’50s. Now, this is a total antidote to my inconsolate yet oddly productive avoidance behaviors.

I include this clip of comedic mastery. Imagine what these two might have done today? Dave Chappelle is the only one I can think of who is in their ballpark with insight.

Anyway, listen to ‘planning a funeral’ sketch. Or, “Hello, this is your mother calling.” Protoplasm at its best.

Protoplasm is the basic material of life. It contains proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids and inorganic material.

I can avoid choking for hours from news alerts by remaining in my bunker watching, reading, & listening and learning about the human nature parade through Nichols and May.
