WordPress has a new feature called “Slideshow” that suits perfectly a sequence of photos I took over the weekend of one of those timeless moments that dads and sons have every day when lessons for living are being imparted. This lesson had to do with tying a tie. They were just about to go to Easter services and Benjamin’s tie needed a little adjustment.
One of the reasons I love to visit my niece and her husband is to watch how they parent their two boys. Sometimes I have tears in my eyes wishing her father, my late brother, could see what I am seeing through the lens.

Isn’t it so telling, these vignettes that say so much about father/son relationships. And this new slideshow feature lets us view a sequence that would otherwise be narrowed down to a singular image. Sometimes, more IS better.
You can absorb your brothers’ pride in his stead.
The slideshow works well. Funny how it’s the little things that evoke so many memories.
For example, your photos transported me back to the first grade where we were taught by our teacher, frustrated by the lack of uniformity of our uniforms, how to tie ties “properly”, in a Windsor knot.
Ahhh…. Mrs Davies, what savage brute she was!
I just wish the slideshow box could be larger but I guess I’ll just be happy with having this option for now! How true..sometimes more is better! Not one of these photos on their own was a stunner but together tell a story.
Razz, the thought of you in a Windsor knot….it would have taken a savage brute to accomplish it!!
He didn’t seem particularly interested in the knot-tying process, but looked happy with the result (or perhaps that the tying was over!). Cute, and like you say, it’s the series of images that tells the story no single image could tell as well. If only more parents took the time to show their care and love by personally introducing their kids more of the world’s mysteries — even if it is just tying a tie.
You are right triple D! He wasn’t all that interested in learning but was happy to have it done! This slideshow feature is a good one, I think! Maybe I can take screen shots of a photograph in various stages. I’d love to see some of your creations in stages as well! Think about it.
I’ll never forget learning to tie a tie. I love the Windsor. My dad even showed me how to tie a bow tie, which isn’t so difficult. Learning to tie a tie was easily the coolest thing in the world. And then I discovered girls. Of course, women like a guy with a nice tie – you know, so they can tighten it when he gets out of line.
