Kids are people, right?
(Sorry, Don, the lady doing leg lifts on her porch was gone by the time I made it out to the bushes)
Reason #1 I am not a children’s photographer: I like silly faces. I make them myself while I am shooting.
Reason #2 I am not a children’s photographer: I’ll sacrifice sharp left eyeballs in order to get a dreamier background effect.
Reason #3 I am not a children’s photographer: I would argue with the parent as to what photo to enlarge and wouldn’t sell them one I didn’t like.

Singular Sensation-breaking photographic rules lowers your cholesterol: Tip#2
a great portrait in my opinion would capture an essence as well as a likeness, both of which you have done here superbly, and the amazing thing is how you must intrinsically know when exactly to snap the shutter and get these wonderful images of children and everything else you see fit to photograph. my digital camera has a pause which makes the capture something i almost have to predict or let alone for chance to determine. even with a traditional camera the moment is fleeting, for me, the really good picture is an event worth remembering, with your work it happens consistently which is the artistry i so admire. i am excited about your idea of photographing people and look forward to seeing more, always a treat for the eyes and sensibility, thank you Pat!
tipota, I, too, found that delay annoying in my other digital cameras. It was one of the reasons I upgraded to tell you the truth. My trick is conitnuous exposures. I never take just single shutter clicks– particularly, with kids. Oh, forget it if I did that. All my pxs would be with kids eyes closed or out of focus entirely!!
Tsk, tsk. now you gave away one of your secrets. I agree with tipota that you’ve captured the personality, not just a likeness. Could that have something to do with why you don’t always agree with the parents on which photo is best??
Don, I think you are exactly right that it may be the underbelly of any disagreement! I never really thought of it that way but it certainly fits! Giving away my secrets?
Happy I have some to give!
